Not understanding the language of your soon to be host country can be nervewracking. It’s not essential that you speak a second language to travel, but if you want to enrich your experience by getting the hang of at least the basics, Durham is on hand to support your linguistic development.
You can expect a reduction in your tuition fees during a study abroad or placement year (these fees go to Durham while your host uni fees are waived).
You can still apply in the normal way via Student Finance to help cover these costs and there may be additional funding opportunities to help you settle into your year abroad!
