If university isn’t about discovery, we don’t know what is! Whether it’s discovering yourself, what makes you tick or thinking about the world around you in more depth - university is the time and place for broadening your horizons.
That’s where Liverpool Hope comes in! Research is at the heart of everything Liverpool Hope does. They are one of the few universities where all of their staff are active researchers and either have (or are working towards) a PhD, which means you’ll be surrounded by imagination and innovation.
They have a number of research centres which support staff and students in conducting the latest research in a number of key areas; creative and performing arts, education, humanities, geography & environmental science, mathematics, computer science & engineering, psychology, social sciences, and sport & health Sciences.
Liverpool Hope uses a new framework, called research-informed teaching (RIT), the idea is that students are encouraged to become active enquirers and to learn more about fields that interest them. The framework encourages discovery, research and imagination - you’ll have free reign to discover topics and areas that interest you.
We’ll use the next few slides to deep dive into some of the projects that Liverpool Hope’s students and staff are currently researching - from wellbeing in armed forces veterans to football’s global fan base!
Dr Lisa Di Lemma explores a series of Veteran health and wellbeing studies. The project combines quantitative and qualitative data and looks at existing UK programmes tackling ‘serious stress’ in veterans, their families and carers. The aim is to better understand the associated factors and symptoms related to stress in this population.
Dr Eve Binks focuses on issues impacting identity in military veterans and, in particular, the experience and role of the military-civilian transition in the identity construction of this community. Other projects include evaluating the needs of veteran communities and exploring the role of sport in identity redevelopment in injured veterans.
Liverpool Hope is investigating the behavioural and psychological attributes of premier league supporters, with a lens focused on satellite supporters. These satellite supporters are widely regarded as the future of the globalisation of football. The aim is to investigate overseas supporters and compare their sense of loyalty to those nationally!
Another interesting project at Liverpool Hope is looking at the impact of Covid19 on children and adolescents. There are loads of research areas covering interesting topics like the impact of face coverings on language processing and emotion recognition in young children.
