Hi, I’m Rifat and I’m 19 years old. I’m originally from Bangladesh but I moved to the UK when I was 7 years old. I enjoy cycling and watching movies.
I’m currently studying BA(Hons) Business and Management.
Business was my favourite subject at GCSE and A Level. I like that my business course is very versatile and flexible as it covers a lot of different topics, from finance to marketing. This means it’ll give me a lot of different career opportunities when I graduate.
UWE Bristol has a lot to offer, with a range of courses, societies and clubs to join. They have modern facilities such as trading rooms and mock court rooms within the Business School. The University also has industry connections which provides many opportunities for work experience, placements and internships.
I like that there’s so much to do on campus, from societies to sports. For example, I’ve been able to try rock climbing on campus, which is a good way to socialise and have some fun. There are also many places to study or relax after lectures.
I enjoy that there’s plenty of support for students. You can ask lecturers as many questions as you want, get feedback on work you’ve done or go to skills sessions to sharpen up your study skills. The module staff are friendly and you can have good conversations with them.
Bristol is a big city with a great student community. The city offers a good mix of urban living and natural beauty, with parks, gardens, and waterfront areas. Traveling around the city is really easy as there are regular buses going all around the city, including straight to campus.
Becoming more independent. Coming to university has meant I’ve had to learn to do a lot of things on my own. Being alone can be scary as a first year, but doing so can really help you learn important life skills, grow as a person and think for yourself.
Growing up, I was always shy and reserved. University has helped me to meet a lot of new people and try new things out, which has grown my confidence and helped me to come out of my shell.
I want to use the knowledge I’ve learned so far to get a business role in a leading company. Luckily, Bristol has a strong and diverse range of businesses for graduate opportunities, including creative media, finance, and technology. I’d also like to start my own business in the future.
Get involved and take every opportunity to you get. University will have a lot to offer, so give everything a go. For example, join societies and get out of your comfort zone. This will help you to enjoy your time more and you’ll be able to meet great new people.
